In April 2009 the latest recommendations from the British Standards Institution, BS 7858:2006, came into effect. These recommendations pertain to the screening of individuals who will be employed in an environment where the security and safety of people, goods or property is a requirement of the employing organisation and/or where such security screening is in the public interest. These recommendations are considered best practice for all organisations, not just those within the security industry.
